Das OpenStreetMap Projekt (OSM) ist eines der interessantesten Projekte im GIS-Umfeld und die Quelle für freie Geodaten.
Mit derzeit über 35.000 registrierten Mitarbeitern und exponentiellem Wachstum sammelt das Projekt auf der ganzen Welt Geodaten zu Verkehrswegen, Flächennutzung, Bebauung und Points of Interest. In einzelnen Städten übertrifft das OpenStreetMap-Angebot längst kostenlose proprietäre Angebote wie z.B. Google Maps - aber OpenStreetMap ist mehr, denn hier stehen die vollständigen Geodaten allen Nutzern zum Download bereit. Die Mitarbeit am Projekt steht allen Interessierten offen.

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is one of the most interesting projects in the field of geoinformation systems and THE source for free geo data. With currently more than 35.000 registered members and an exponential growth the project collects geo data on the whole world regarding road transport, infrastructure, land utilisation, building development and Points of Interest. In some cities the content of Open-Street-Map exceeded free proprietary offers e.g. Google Maps, long ago - but OpenStreetMap is far more: as all users can download the complete geodata and everyone is welcome to collaborate.
The presentation gives a review to the following themes: - Layout and structures of the OpenStreetMap project - Possibilities to collaborate on the project - Utilisation and advantages of OSM data
